About Gem Burst
Gem Burst is a free jewel matching adventure that you can play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The Crystal Heart of Aurelia has shattered into eleven shards, and you help Lumi the star sprite recover them. Swap neighbouring gems to line up three or more of the same kind, trigger chain reactions and complete the goal of each level before your moves run out.
What makes Gem Burst different is the power of special gems. Match four in a row to forge a Bomb that blasts the area around it. Match five in a row to create a Rainbow gem that clears a whole colour. Build an L or T shape to make a Rocket that fires along its row and column, and match six or more to create a Nova, the strongest gem in the game. Swap two special gems together and the effects combine into huge explosions that can clear most of the board.
There are 99 levels in 11 worlds, and the goals keep changing. Some levels ask for a score, others ask you to collect a particular gem, break ice under the board, smash stones or bring golden keys to the bottom. Every ninth level is a boss fight. Each boss has an energy bar and casts spells such as dropping stones onto your board, so you need big combos to win. Every boss you defeat gives you a Crystal Shard and a story chapter.
If you finish a level with moves to spare, the extra moves turn into a fireworks bonus that pays extra coins. Coins can be spent on helpers such as the Hammer, Shuffle, +5 Moves and a Rainbow gem. Easy, Medium and Hard modes let beginners and experts enjoy the same adventure at their own pace.
Tips for Gem Burst
- Work from the top of the board when you can. Moves near the top cause fewer random cascades, so you can plan your next special gem.
- Tap a Bomb or Rocket twice to fire it without making a match, which is useful when it is the only way to reach an ice tile.
- Save your Rainbow gem and swap it with a Bomb or Rocket for the biggest combo.
- Against a boss, keep a few special gems ready for the turn before its spell arrives.
