About Number Merge

Number Merge is a sliding tile puzzle that you can play here for free on your phone, tablet or computer. The board is a grid of squares. On every move you swipe, or press an arrow key, to slide all tiles in one direction. When two tiles with the same number bump into each other, they merge into one tile with the sum: 2 and 2 become 4, 4 and 4 become 8, and so on. After every move a new 2 or 4 appears. Your goal is to keep doubling until you build the big target tile before the board fills up, and then you can keep going for an even higher score.

Choose a 4x4 board for a classic game, a 3x3 board for a hard challenge, or 5x5 and 6x6 for a relaxed game with lots of space. The game keeps your score, your moves and a separate best score for each board size. You can undo your last moves, and your game is saved in the browser, so you can close the page and continue later.

Tips

• Keep your biggest tile in one corner and never move it out. Use only three directions most of the time.
• Build a row of descending numbers along one edge, so merges can chain together.
• Do not chase small merges everywhere. Plan the next two moves before you swipe.
• Keep the bottom row full, so tiles do not move unexpectedly when you press the fourth direction.
